Group gnome painting

Any group can partake in this popular and fun event – preschools, schools, colleges, retirement villages, work groups, clubs and community groups are encourages to enter the painting competition.

Groups can purchases gnomes in bulk at a significant discount before Floriade to enable their painting and entry into the painting competition – details below.

Painting your gnomes

Gnomes can be painted with most paints – water based acrylic paints are most suitable.

Once the paint has dried, a clear lacquer (spray) should be applied to protect the paint from the weather.

Do not paint the base of the gnome as this is used by Rotary staff to add identification numbers. However, the name of the painter can be added using a black texta pen.

Identifying your entries

Group entries must be accompanied by signage identifying the group, and if necessary, the theme of the entry.

Signage should be about A5 in size supported by strong stakes (preferably two) and laminated or on other material able to withstand the weather over a four-week period.

Delivering your gnomes to Floriade

Deliver your painted gnomes to Gnome Knoll at Floriade during the first weekend of Floriade. Early morning delivery (after 9:30 am) avoids the crowds and makes parking easier. Rotarians will help you register the entry of your gnomes into the gnome painting competition and to place your entry into the garden
